blurb:

"Russia's secret electronica weapon" (© DJ magazine) return with their first longer-playing release, 'Warm Math', since their 2000 'Reframing' minialbum of jiggery pokery glitch-tastic electronics. This record fleshes out a whole spectrum of new sounds for EU, some of which were intonated towards on their recent 'Tuner' EP.

Sasha Zaitsev and Ilya Baramiya (aka EU) have had a busy period since Reframing; the release of which prompted a whole host of requests from labels (large and small) for compilation contributions, some of which EU succumbed to. These were labels as diverse as Peacefrog, Lo, Vertical Form, Merck, Neo Ouija, Earworm and many others. They were also commissioned to create a 10-minute mix of their debut (NME Single of the Week!) P2 release 'Wienn' for an ITV1 (UK National terrestrial TV) audio-visual mix show, Mixmasters, with visuals supplied by Red Dog. They were also invited to perform a session for One World (Radio 1) which was broadcast in May 2002, as part of a PAUSE_2 feature show.

Widely renowned within the electronic world of music for their DSP-glitch-a-thons and abstract beatscapes; it is these people whom Warm Math will shock the most. With this release, EU have moved away from the synthetic sound of digital electronics, to one which is more.. romantic.. maybe? Experimental yet romantic, somehow.. Sasha and Ilya seamlessly transform complex ideas and techniques into simple sounds, and this forms part of the fundamental difference from their previous works. Rather than recording experimentation for the sake of experimenting, EU actually set out to record an album of 'songs' instead of just 'tracks'.

They've still used techniques and sounds familiar to fans of modern electronica, but with emphasis on a more organic and human sound. This doesn't mean that their music has become over-simplified, instead it makes a refreshing change from the current slew of familiar electronic sounds.
